Betty Gurnett

Betty Jane Gurnett went peacefully to be with her Savior on May 23, 2014, with family at her side.

Born on July 4, 1924 in midwest Wyoming, she was the first of six children born to Helen Haynes Donner and Harry H. Donner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Gurnett; and her brothers, Harry Donner Jr., and Donald J. Donner.

She is survived by her children, Bundie Olson (Allen), Ray Sparks (Kim), Murene Larsen (Bruce), Valeria Montgomery (Jim), Ginger Shields (Jim), Michael Paul (Natalie) and Dannie Dee Reynolds (Barry); her sisters, Ladoris Riley, and Phyllis Sue Olsen; and her brother, “Kay” Donner. Betty was fortunate to have 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Betty loved to be outdoors, whether it be gardening, camping or just wading in the ocean. She was creative with her hands and her cooking was a delight. She met adversity with a strong sense of character and was a Survivor. Betty had a passion for dance, be it tap or ballroom. Mom, we know you’re dancing now!

Betty’s family would like to thank her doctors and nurses for their great care. Also, a special “thank you” to the staff at Martha and Mary’s Marina Unit for the six years of love and care you provided our mom.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Martha and Mary’s Health Service Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Martha and Mary Health Care Services.
