Betty Denice Long

Betty Denice Long, 85

Betty Denice Long, 85, died May 28. She was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, on April 15, 1923, and later moved with her family to Astoria, Ore.

During World War II she volunteered as a USO Girl, where she met and married Don Long and had three children Dennis Michael, Dianne Marie and Judith Ellen Long. All survive her, as do her four grandchildren: Michael (Stacey) DeLapp, Allison (George) Flanigan, Rien and Devan Long. She leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Teshia, Connor, Annelise and Jacob DeLapp; Kaitlin and Hope Flanigan; Gavin Long.

She was a woman of many skills and talents. She worked as a display decorator for J.C. Penney in Astoria, Ore. before moving to Poulsbo where she organized local fashion shows and worked for the chamber of commerce.

She was musical, artistic and poetic.

While living in Glendale, Calif. she worked for Catholic Charities until retirement then moved to Salem, Ore., where she and her very special guy John Johnson went to dances and were lively members of the senior center. She belonged to the senior glee club.
