Astrid Christenson, 93

Former Poulsbo resident Astrid Maria Leonhard Christenson died March 28 at Linden Grove Health Care Center in Puyallup. She was 93 years old.

She was born on July 4, 1908 in Hjorring, Denmark.

She met her husband Eric, who was from Goteborg, Sweden, on her second voyage to this country in 1929. They were married Jan. 6, 1930 in Seattle.They moved to Poulsbo in 1979.

Eric was a carpenter and painter on Bainbridge Island for many years and was also employed by the Washington State Ferries for 10 years. He died in July, 1987.

She was a homemaker who loved gardening and knitting. Many of her fine baby booties and

blankets benefitted the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle. She received awards and recognition from the Air Force for her volunteer service in the look-out tower on Bainbridge Island during World War II. She also donated many pints of blood during her 70 years as a Kitsap County resident.

Survivors include daughters Anna Brinkman, El Centro, Calif. and Rosa Deonigi of Sumner; son Eric W. Christenson of Poulsbo and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Denmark and Sweden.
