Arthur J. DeCarufel Jr., 83

Arthur J. DeCarufel Jr. of Poulsbo died April 19, 2006. He was 83.

DeCarufel was born to Arthur J. DeCarufel Sr. and Maria A. (Bergeron) DeCarufel Dec. 11, 1922 in North Attleboro, Mass.

He married Jean M. MacDougall May 29,1945 in San Morino, Calif.

DeCarufel graduated from North Attleboro High School in North Attleboro, Mass. He served in WWII in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant.

DeCarufel worked as a foreman at Keyport Torpedo Station. He also worked as a space industry field engineer for Aerojet in Azusa, Calif. and as a stained glass craftsman for Judson Studies in Highland Park, Calif.

He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, Western movies and gardening.

He was a life long member of the VFW

DeCarufel is survived by his wife Jean DeCarufel of Poulsbo; sons James (Darein) of Kenneshaw, Ga., Bob of Ketchum, Idaho, Steve (Shirley) of West Seattle, Mike (Jessica) of Bainbridge Island, and Mark of West Seattle; daughter Jeanne (Frank) Stottlemyer of Poulsbo; sister Rita (Frank) Kirkpatrick of North Dighton, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no services but a memorial space flight will be launched at Vandenberg Air Force Base this fall and a portion of his cremated remains will remain in space.

The remainder of his cremated remains will be inurned at Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
