Americ Higashi, 57

Americ Higashi of Poulsbo died Jan. 3, 2005 in Bremerton. He was 57.

Higashi was born to Roy Y. and Ruli (Taniguchi) Higashi in Monterey, Calif. on Sept. 9, 1947.

He married Susan J. Drury on Aug. 5, 1999 in Richardson, Alaska.

Higashi graduated from Wasson High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1965, Washington State University in Pullman in 1971 and then from the University of Idaho at Moscow in 1973.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He later taught English at North Seattle Community College and then was owner of American Showcase photo studio in Redmond.

Higashi enjoyed music, movies, photography, video, carpentry, boating, bird watching, eBay and computers. He was a brown belt in martial arts and loved muscle cars. He traveled to Alaska seven times.

Higashi is survived by his wife Susan J. Drury of Poulsbo; mother Ruli (Taniguchi) Higashi of Puyallup; brother Terry (Linda) Higashi of Boise, Idaho; sisters Betty (Ken) Wallen of Mesa, Ariz. and Margie Jensen of Puyallup; and one nephew.

A visitation took place Jan. 5-6 and a funeral service was held on Jan. 7. Cremation is under the direction of the Cherry Grove Crematory at Poulsbo’s Stone Chapel.
