Alfred S. Opdahl, 92

Alfred S. Opdahl, formerly of Poulsbo, died Sept. 7, 2007. He was 92.

Opdahl was born to Kristian and Lise in Seattle on March 2, 1915.

He married Frieda Goos in 1947.

Opdahl graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1933 and the College of Forestry at the University of Washington in 1938.

He worked as a logging engineer for Crown Zellerbach at Sail River Camp in Neah Bay. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946, serving during World War II. Opdahl was honorably discharged with the rank of First Sergeant. He was promoted in 1960 to chief logging engineer by Crown Zellerbach, and held the position until 1977, when he retired.

Opdahl enjoyed woodworking, golf, fishing and hiking on the Olympic Peninsula.

Opdahl is survived by his wife Frieda of Gresham, Ore.; son Chris (Debbie) Opdahl of Spicewood, Texas; daughter Nancy (Norm) Folger of Estacada, Ore.; and granchildren Lesa Folger-Durham, Beth Munds and Kacy Opdahl.

Opdahl will rest in the Willamette National Cemetery.
