Those who ride on two wheels are being asked to help make sure state-owned traffic lights are detecting motorcycles and bicycles.

The state Department of Transportation on Friday requested comments from riders who notice that state-operated lights do not detect them. The state operates and maintains traffic signals on state roads, not roads maintained by counties and cities.

Traffic signals use various detection systems at the lights to ensure vehicles moving in high-volume directions get more “green” time. The systems also ensure motorists and riders going in the opposite direction are provided green lights as well.
