A 44-year-old Belfair woman has been arrested on three counts of vehicular assault and DUI after crashing her Porsche into the Grocery Outlet in Bremerton, which resulted in three adults suffering serious injuries.
Per a Bremerton Police Department incident report, the driver drove through the storefront windows and over a checkstand, with grocery items scattered around the store.
One man, who was an employee at the store, was found lying on the ground and was being treated by first responders for a broken leg. Bystanders said his leg had been crushed between a checkstand and the vehicle. A woman also suffered a large skull fracture, and another woman sustained a fractured pelvis and sprained wrist, per documents. All three were transported to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale. The incident report also stated that three children suffered scrapes and scratches.
The driver told police that she pulled into a parking stall at Grocery Outlet after leaving work, attempting to turn around. Shen then said she was trying to back out of the parking spot but left the car in drive, accelerating into the storefront, per the incident report.
Police conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, which revealed several signs of possible intoxication. After initially denying taking any substances after she left work around 5 p.m., she later admitted to eating ¼ of a 10-milligram cannabis gummy, the incident report states. The driver was scheduled to appear in Kitsap County Superior Court Feb. 5.
Due to the damage, the store had to close for repairs but has reopened as of Feb. 6, per the grocery store’s Facebook page.
