Wave2Go e-fares a go in Kingston

Washington State Ferries new electronic fare collection system introduced in Kingston.

Washington State Ferries introduced its new electronic fare collection system, Wave2Go, to Edmonds/Kingston ferry customers Feb. 20. Frequent-user ticket books, for both car/driver and passengers, are no longer available. Ticket books are being replaced with a bar-coded, scanable multi-ride card, carrying the same amount of rides and discount as the frequent-user books, as well as the same 90-day expiration date.

Frequent-user tickets for the Edmonds/Kingston route will be accepted at the terminal tollbooths until their expiration date. However, the new multi-ride cards will not be accepted at Bainbridge, Bremerton or Seattle terminals for the next month until these terminals go online with Wave2Go. Customers who regularly travel all three routes are encouraged to buy Central Sound Ticket books at other terminals.

The multi-ride passenger cards will be available from kiosks at each terminal as well as through the Internet (www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries) and at both Edmonds and Kingston terminal tollbooths. A family or group traveling together can share the card. The car/driver multi-ride card can only be used by one car per sailing.

Passengers purchasing the passes online will have the option of either printing the pass at home or ordering a hard-coated credit card-like stock from the ferry system and then having it automatically reloaded each month through the ReValue system. Frequent ferry users can sign up and create an account for an automatic Revalue for their multi-ride (frequent user) car/driver and passenger cards. This means that as a multi-ride card expires or a customer uses all the rides, the card will automatically revalue with the next 10 rides. It also allows a customer to put a hold on a card if it is lost or stolen and then be re-issued a new card with the remaining rides.

With the introduction of Wave2Go, single full-fare tickets will be available for pre-purchase up to seven days in advance, a first for Washington State Ferries. All other tickets will also be available on the Internet and at kiosks at the terminals as well as at the terminal tollbooths. This includes senior/disabled tickets, as well as multi-ride passenger and vehicle/driver single fares and multi-ride cards. All tickets purchased via the Internet can be printed at home on a personal printer and scanned at the tollbooth or at a turnstile.
