Waters Restaurant hires Myhre’s employees, plans to serve breakfast

The four-month-old Waters Restaurant, in downtown Port Orchard, will become a bit more like the former Myhre’s Restaurant, starting July 15.

Two former Myhre’s employees have joined the staff at The Waters to help launch the restaurant’s first breakfast menu.

“We’re all really excited,” said Rachel Smith, who co-owns The Waters Restaurant with her husband Kelly. “I know the girls are really excited.”

Breakfast will cost an “approachable” $7 to $11, Rachel Smith said, and will feature “regular” comfort food as well as comfort food with an “upscale twist.”

Smith’s favorite example, she said, is the crab cakes benedict.

“It’s like eggs benedict,” she explained, “but instead of an English muffin, it will be on crab cakes.”

And they’ll be made from scratch, she continued, like the other food at The Waters.

“Nothing is prepackaged,” she said.

The Smiths thought of serving breakfast since they opened the restaurant, four months ago.

And, when a three-alarm fire destroyed Myhre’s Restaurant July 1, the idea came to the top of their minds, again.

They thought, initially, of opening for a single breakfast and donating the proceeds to the Mhyre’s employees, who lost their jobs when the restaurant burned down.

But, in the end, they decided to just hire them to serve breakfast regularly.

“We’d been talking about opening for breakfast since we opened (the restaurant),” Rachel Smith said. “It was in our original, plan, but it got scrapped.”

Now, though, the plan is quickly becoming a reality.

The restaurant will soft launch its breakfast menu July 13, “to give the girls the chance to get used to our setup,” Smith explained.

And it’s official launch is slated for July 15, which the restaurant plans to celebrate with free drip coffee to anyone ordering breakfast.

Breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m., Monday through Saturday.
