Waldo is hiding in downtown Poulsbo

A four-inch-tall Waldo figure has been given to each of the 27 downtown Poulsbo businesses to hide in their stores. Waldo hunters are welcome to tour downtown to find as many of the Waldos as they can in July.

POULSBO — Where’s Waldo? Try downtown Poulsbo.

But it won’t be easy.

“We hide Waldos in 27 stores around town,” said Madison Butler of Liberty Bay Books.

“(Businesses) can move it around every day in July,” Butler said. “Sometimes people let kids hide it after they find it. It’s really fun and the kids have a fun time.”

And it’s free, Butler said.

Searchers can get a passport at Liberty Bay Books. When a Waldo is found, the hunter gets a stamp in the passport.

“Once a kid gets 20 stamps, they can come back here and a get a button that says ‘I found Waldo,’ and they get a $1 off coupon good for any Waldo book we have,” Butler said. “If they find 22, they are invited back on Aug. 1 for a pizza party. All the stores donate stuff to give away as prizes for kids.”

Liberty Bay Books is also hiding “Woof,” Waldo’s dog.

It’s the third year that downtown merchants have organized a Waldo hunt. The event began with the 25th anniversary of the publication of the first book featuring the red-and-white striped mystery man.
