Volunteers needed to survey homeless population

PORT ORCHARD — Kitsap County volunteers will conduct its annual Point-in-Time homelessness count during a 24-hour period Jan. 23-26.

Volunteers are needed to help with the project throughout the county during that week to assist the Kitsap County Department of Human Services Housing and Homelessness Program and the Kitsap Continuum of Care Coalition. Data collected during the survey informs local, state and federal funders and helps channel resources to local communities, said Cory Derenburger, H&HP program specialist.

Volunteer opportunities include surveying at food banks and meal sites, and outreach with experienced teams. No experience by the volunteers is necessary; training will be provided. To register as a volunteer, go to tiny.cc/PIT2018.

The deadline to register is Dec. 31.
