Vehicles on Beach Road crash head-on

Male not injured, female driver has minor scrapes, bruises

PORT ORCHARD — A head-on collision on Beach Road East at Retsil Friday, Oct. 26 sent a female Port Orchard driver to the hospital for evaluation and a male driver and his vehicle into Sinclair Inlet.

Deputies from Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and first responders from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene after approximately 3 p.m. to extricate the drivers, who were alone in their respective vehicles. Deputy Scott Wilson said the male driver from Port Orchard, approximately 20 years old, reportedly had fallen asleep and his 2010 Dodge Avenger heading southbound crossed the center line.

The Dodge sedan then struck a 41-year-old female driving her northbound 2010 Subaru Legacy on Beach Road. The man’s vehicle ended up into the shallow waters of the Sinclair Inlet next to the roadway, where the car began to take on water. He was rescued from the vehicle and was reportedly uninjured, Wilson said.

The woman, whose Subaru suffered extensive damage, was transported to a local hospital for observation. She told the Independent that as a result of the accident, she had suffered broken bones and other injuries requiring surgery.
