USS Turner Joy reunion announced

The shipmates of the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) are hosting their biennial reunion at the Hampton Inn, 150 Washington Ave., Bremerton Aug. 7-10 2008. Approximately 125-150 shipmates and their guests are expected to attend.

Planned activities include tours of Port Townsend/Port Gamble and Bainbridge Island. The shipmates and their guests also will host their banquet at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8. The banquet guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Bruce P. Crandall (ret.) who was recently awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Bush for heroism during the VietNam War.

The shipmates and their guests will host a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 on board the USS Turner Joy, berthed in Bremerton. That evening, they will travel to Tillicum Village, Blake Island for the Salmon Bake and Show.

On Aug. 10, 26 shipmates and their guests will set sail on a seven-day Alaskan cruise on Holland America Lines.
