The Seattle-Bremerton ferry will return to two-ferry service in time for the evening commute, according to Washington State Ferries.

One ferry, the 188-car Walla Walla, was running on the route this morning due to a leak found in the Kitsap, which will be out of service at least through this weekend.

During an inspection early Tuesday morning, eight inches of water was discovered in the bilge, caused by a small leak found where the bulkhead meets the keel. The water apparently came from a hole about the size of a pencil lead, Washington State Ferries Spokeswoman Marta Coursey said in an e-mail. The cause of the leak is yet to be determined.

Divers applied a temporary patch to the 124-car Kitsap’s leak and it will be tugged to the Todd shipyard in Seattle on Thursday for repairs.

The 90-car ferry Sealth, which most recently served the Point Defiance-Talequah route, will be in Seattle and begin carrying passengers with a 4:20 p.m. sailing to Bremerton. The Walla Walla is still scheduled to depart from Bremerton at 1:45 p.m. and from Seattle at 3 p.m.
