A 21-year-old man and 40-year-old woman were arrested Sunday for assault with a deadly weapon after repeatedly beating a visitor in the woman’s Bremerton apartment and leaving him in a pool of blood for almost 12 hours.

The assault started Saturday when the victim intervened in an argument about “family matters” between the woman and her nephew in her apartment in the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue, according to Bremerton Police reports. As a scuffle began between the 21-year-old nephew and the victim, the woman told her nephew to hold the victim down and she kicked him in the face, punched him and hit him with a metal rod. The beating, which lasted about four-and-a-half hours, ended at about 3 a.m. Sunday. The 21-year-old told police everyone involved was on methamphetamine.

Multiple 911 calls brought police to the apartment Sunday, including one from the 21-year-old, who reported the incident to police, but the woman refused to let police inside.

At about 2:45 p.m., police forced the woman’s front door open, having seen blood stains on the front door frame and heard a male voice inside calling for help. When inside, officers found blood spots on the hallway floor, and bloody hand prints on the hallway wall and back bedroom door. Blood covered the bedroom floor. The victim was found on the living room couch with dried blood on his hands, clothing, hair and face, and his left eye swollen shut. He was transported to Harrison Medical Center. The woman had bruising and blood stains on her feet.

Both suspects were booked into the Kitsap County jail for first-degree assault.
