The incident began early Dec. 20 when a 26-year-old Port Orchard man’s vehicle was allegedly stolen at gunpoint; he was was allegedly taken and held hostage for an unspecified period of time before being released out of the car in the Olalla area.

The man finally reported the alleged crimes to sheriff’s deputies around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 20, claiming that he was threatened with being shot if he went to authorities.

Local law enforcement agencies were dispatched in an attempt to find the stolen vehicle and sheriff’s detectives took over the investigation, Wilson reported.

Around 3:25 a.m. Dec. 21, a Bremerton Police patrol officer spotted the stolen vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, traveling westbound on Arsenal Way. The vehicle headed south on National Avenue, turned right on West C Street then left onto Audrey Avenue where the male driver came to a dead-end and stopped. The male driver and a female passenger fled from the car on foot, Wilson reported. The Bremerton officer radioed for additional units to assist.

The suspects were located inside the house on Dill Way, east of Audrey Avenue. “Despite early morning P.A. system announcements and the presence of law enforcement personnel and vehicles, the two suspects refused to exit, although a number of others inside did eventually leave the residence,” Wilson reported.

Sheriff’s deputies obtained a search warrant for the premises. Around 9:35 a.m., the sheriff’s SWAT team took over the scene. The female suspect

surrendered within minutes. The male suspect surrendered almost two hours later. He was treated at the scene by South Kitsap Fire & Rescue medics for exposure to a chemical irritant. Both suspects were then transported and booked into Kitsap County Jail.

The male suspect, 22, from Bremerton, was booked on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, and arrest warrants for first-degree criminal trespassing, obstruction of justice, and third-degree malicious mischief. Total bail: $562,500.

The female suspect, 22, from Central Kitsap, was booked on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery. Total bail: $250,000.

The Chevrolet Cobalt, reported stolen, was impounded as evidence. The investigation continues by sheriff’s detectives.
