Suspect charged with July murder of Barbara Sneed

If convicted, DuWayne Bender, 24, could face the death penalty or life in prison without possibility of parole.

The man accused of raping and murdering a 65-year old Suquamish woman was arraigned Wednesday on charges of aggravated murder in the first degree.

If convicted, DuWayne Bender, 24, of Suquamish could get life in prison or the death penalty, said Kitsap County Prosecutor Russ Hauge.

Bender was arrested at a Suquamish home last week after the State Crime Lab matched DNA evidence at the scene with the voluntary semen sample he gave detectives at the beginning of the investigation.

Kitsap County sheriff’s officers confirmed that Bender confessed to the crime.
