KINGSTON – A 38-year-old Suquamish man was airlifted to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center early Thursday morning after he apparently stumbled into a fire pit at a private residence, according to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Michele Laboda.

NKF&R crews responded to an address off of Hansville Road near NE 288th at 2:17 a.m. July 25. The man’s companions told crews that they called 911 after they were awakened by his cries for help and found him among the dying embers of an outdoor fire that the group had enjoyed earlier in the evening. They walked him up the residence’s driveway to meet responders.

Neither the man nor his friends could tell crews how he ended up in the fire pit, but he suffered burns serious enough to require the care of the regional burn center at Harborview. Medics called for an Airflit Northwest helicopter to rendezvous with them at the landing zone at David Wolfle Elementary. Foggy conditions prevented the helicopter from landing in the Kingston area, so the patient was taken to an alternate landing zone at Poulsbo’s Raab Park and flown from there.

There is no further information to report at this time; NKF&R will provide an update on the man’s condition when and if available. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident.
