The Suquamish Foundation’s A Time To Gather art auction is offering a chance for art enthusiasts to support construction of Legacy Park, a new community gathering place in Suquamish.
The art auction will be held April 27 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m at Kiana Lodge in Suquamish. Featuring appetizers, a salmon dinner, cocktails and both a live and silent auction, the goal for the event is to raise $60,000 to complete the Suquamish Foundation’s portion of the park funding.
Those attending will have the chance to bid on traditional and contemporary Native American art pieces, as well as unique experiential opportunities such as local archaeology tours, an indigenous foods cooking class and a traditional canoe voyage around Agate Passage.
The park will span from the Suquamish Museum to the downtown Veteran’s Memorial with trails, gathering places, and a culturally themed playground featuring traditional stories, the Tribe says. The park will be free and open to the public. The Suquamish Tribe will soon break ground on the park, which is designed to better connect the community both physically and culturally.
“Legacy Park will offer people of all ages a rich variety of spaces and places to gather, play, and immerse themselves in Suquamish stories,” Suquamish Foundation Director Robin Little Wing Sigo said. “For generations, our people have known this is how you raise healthy children and families. It’s what helps create the capacity to recover, to renew and to rebound from hard times.”
Tickets for the dinner and auction are $85 for individuals, $150 per couple or $600 to reserve a table of eight. Those with a Friends of the Museum membership pay $75. To purchase tickets go to suquamishfoundation.org.
