Students receive scholarships from veterans

The Bremerton Chapter of the United States Submarine Veterans presented six $1,000 scholarship awards.

At the Bremerton Fleet Reserve No. 29 facility, on June 17, Base Commander Jim Demott of the Bremerton Chapter of the United States Submarine Veterans presented six $1,000 scholarship awards. For more than 30 years, the chapter’s Lt William “Willie” Spoon Memorial Scholarship program has provided awards to children and grandchildren of submarine veterans.  The 2014 recipients are:

Rebekah Cordray, sponsored by her father, Benjamin Cordray. She is attending Central Kitsap High School. She is planning to attend Montana State University majoring in conservation biology.

David James Deanan is sponsored by his grandfather, James Kendall. He is attending Crosspoint Academy and will be attending George Fox University, Newberg, Oregon, majoring in biology.

Dylan Heber was sponsored by his grandfather, George Verd. He is attending Central Kitsap High School and is planning to attend the University of Washington.

Justine Morris is sponsored by her grandfather, Gregory Fessler. She is attending New York University majoring in journalism.

Bethany Sheridan is sponsored by her father; James Sheridan. She is attending Johnson & Wales University in North Miami, Florida, majoring in fashion merchandising and business.

Joseph Wiltz is sponsored by his father, Steven Wiltz. He is attending Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, and is majoring in Christian studies.
