A man possessing a stolen truck was tracked down Saturday in the Popeye’s drive-thru in Bremerton, with two women unconnected to the incident caught between police and the suspect.

The 35-year-old Tahuya man was spotted traveling north with a stolen 1988 Toyota pickup on the Warren Avenue bridge at 3:15 p.m., according to police reports. The officers tracking the truck saw the car pull into the Popeye’s drive-thru and and pass the ordering speaker, continuing toward Wheaton Way. When one patrol car pulled behind the truck and another closed off the drive-thru exit, the man stopped the car and started to run away, prompting one officer to draw his firearm and order the man to stop. He followed orders and was arrested.

Meanwhile, the officer who closed off the exit had blocked a civilian vehicle in front of the stolen truck. The two females inside ducked down in the vehicle and refused to exit, despite repeated officer orders.

The 35-year-old man told police he bought the truck from a Belfair man at the Bremerton QFC and said he was going to run away because his Virginia driver’s license had been revoked. He was booked into Kitsap County jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
