PORT GAMBLE — Biodegradable table cloths, napkins and other environmentally-friendly decorations will soon be gracing tables and hanging from the rafters of the Port Gamble historical theater as Stillwaters Environmental Center begins gearing up for its annual yuletide auction this Saturday.

The fundraiser, which has done increasingly well each year, makes an effort to provide environmentally-friendly gift ideas for residents looking for that special something for either family, friends or neighbors. This year, the center will be using all habitat friendly decorations, it’s own personal gift to the Earth.

“There’s a lot of great things, a lot of great gift certificates, the usual things,” said Stillwaters Administrative Director Naomi Maasberg. “There are a lot of things for people to do when they have company. There are the usual, wonderful gift baskets also.”

Some of the larger items being auctioned off include an old China set for six, a house in Mexico available for seven days, a weekend stay at a cabin in Indianola and a sailing trip around Puget Sound. The event will also provide different entertainment, including Christmas carolers in the form of the Carpenter Creek Chorus, which has performed at the event each year. Guitarist Kel Schmitz has also been added to the stage, Maasberg said.

The theater itself is a new venue for the group, and is located above the post office, across the street from the Port Gamble General Store. The auction begins at 5 p.m. For more information, call (360) 297-2876.
