Still time to sign up for Verizon Golf Classic | Rotary News | May

If you haven’t signed up to play in the June 24 Verizon Golf Classic for Kingston Rotary, time is running out.

Teams can register online at www.knkrotarygolf.com. The $120 per player fee helps fund Rotary’s community projects and scholarships. The Verizon Golf Classic promises a fun-filled day for golfers on June 24, beginning at noon.

Modifications have been made to the White Horse Golf Club course, the site of this annual fund-raising event. The course is sunnier this year, with the removal of some trees, and 62 bunkers have been removed to make the course a more enjoyable play for golfers.

This fun-filled day begins with a catered lunch before the shotgun start.  Golfers will gather after tournament for refreshments and an awards dinner.  Competition is spirited, and many of the past teams will be returning to defend their titles.

The Verizon Golf Classic for Kingston Rotary is the club’s largest fundraiser. Rotarians are currently visiting local businesses and encouraging them to “Swing for Rotary” by becoming a sponsor for this year’s tournament.

Sponsors for this year’s tournament are Liberty Bay Bank, Kingston CPA, Kitsap Bank, The Filling Station, Kingston IGA Grocery, Windermere Real Estate, Suquamish Clearwater Casino, Anchor Chiropractic, Kitsap Physical Therapy, Little City Catering/Cuppa Bella, Edward Jones, Kingston Crossing Chiropractic, 20/20 Eyecare, Savage Plants, Stanley Steamer, Kingston Dental, Viking Bank, and the North Kitsap Herald.

Money raised by the tournament goes back into the community for various community projects sponsored by Rotary. This year Rotary has increased its focus on the area’s homeless population and also started a radio podcast, called “Service Above Self” radio. Rotarians sponsor blood drives and help support the food bank.

Schools and parks around Kingston have been an ongoing theme for Kingston Rotary. The first two golf tournaments raised money for the athletic field lights at Kingston High School. The club recently installed trails markers at the new North Kitsap Heritage Park and also supports Village Green Park projects.

Educational projects include building improvements to the Kingston Cooperative Preschool and annual scholarships presented to seniors at Kingston High School. So mark your calendars and come out to White Horse Golf Course to support these worthwhile community projects. It’s a great way to spend the day.

Rotary Club of Kingston-North Kitsap meets at noon Wednesdays in the Kingston Cove Yacht Club.
