St. Cecilia Recital

St. Cecilia is the patron saint of music, so it’s fitting that St. Cecilia Catholic Church on Bainbridge Island is hosting a recital series featuring local musicians. The concerts were the idea of the Rev. Emmett Carroll, parish minister, who envisions frequent concerts incorporating the areas of performance talents in music, art, poetry and dance, according to Elizabeth Stoyanovich, St. Cecilia recital artistic director. Stoyanovich is also Music Director of the Bremerton Symphony Association.

The recital series leads up to the St. Cecilia Festival in November. Stoyanovich noted that although the recitals are held at the church they are not religious in nature and are open to the public.

The second concert in the series is Aug. 27, and features six selections by 10 different musicians.

Selections are Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D minor;” Aquinas’ “Tantum Ergo;” Bach’s “Concerto for Violin in E Major” and Debussy’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano.” Composer Patrick Stoyanovich will perform his work, “Our Last Best Hope,” on piano. He will be accompanied by his daughter, violinist Sophia Stoyanovich on the Bach concerto.

The other pieces were still to be determined at press time.

Musicians on the program in addition to Patrick and Sophia Stoyanovich are Therese and Mary Carmack, Carol Willis Simsak, Amy Duerr-Day, Patti Beasley, Aaron Otheim, Thomas Monk and Jim Quitslund.

The recital will be held at 3 p.m., Aug. 27 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 1310 Madison Ave. N, Bainbridge Island.

Recommended donation at the door is $10 adults and seniors, $5 youth. Money raised goes to the general church fund.
