Smoke hovered over parts of North Kitsap in the vicinity of Miller Bay and Indianola Roads following a stump pile fire at A & L Topsoil that occurred July 24.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews were called to the natural vegetation processing company’s site just before 5 a.m. for a fire in a 100 by 100 foot mound of stumps and other natural debris. Before turning the incident over to the business owner, crews cooled the fire to protect an adjacent excavator and to ensure flames did not spread beyond the pile, per NKF&R.

The large volume of material continued to smolder throughout the day as the business pulled the materials apart to expose and extinguish remaining heat.
