In order to keep the community well informed of the South Kitsap School District’s financial situation, the public is invited to attend a School Board work study session Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in the SKHS Theater.

“Our budget situation is serious,”said Interim Superintendent Bev Cheney. “The district has to find ways to reduce the budget by $2.5 million or more.”

SKSD is having to make difficult decisions for the 2013-14 school year as a result of decreased enrollment over the past 10-plus years, a deficit in the ending fund balance for 2011-12, impact of sequestration on federal funds and local economy, increased costs for services and utilities, contract negotiation, along with other factors.
