SKHS NW JROTC team, individuals place at meets

The South Kitsap High School NW JROTC battalion placed third overall at a Nov. 22 meeting at Clover Park High School in Lakewood.

The South Kitsap High School NW JROTC battalion placed third overall at a Nov. 22 meeting at Clover Park High School in Lakewood.

It was their second meeting of the year, according to Capt. Todd Schapler (USN Ret.), senior Naval science instructor.

The Wolf Battalion finished first in precision marksmanship and armed drill competitions.

The Sporter Marksmanship teams placed second in the unarmed drill, and third in the color guard and strength competition.

In individual cadet competition, Katelynn Croston was first in precision marksmanship, while Jessica Hasel and team captain Breanna Emery, placed second and third, respectfully.

Lindsay McIntosh was third in the spotter marksmanship event, while Nathaniel Speise was third in the armed drill team commander and Angus Dry finished third in the unarmed individual drill competitions.

SKHS competed against teams from Clover Park, Foss, Stadium, Curtis, Wilson, Lincoln and Lake.

On Oct. 25, the battalion competed in the Northwest JROTC Drill and Rifle Conference at Stadium High School in Tacoma.

The cadets placed second out of eight teams overall and took first in academics and second place in armed drill, unarmed drill, strength and rifle.

Croston was first in unarmed drill down and third in unarmed drill team commander, while Stephen Pointer and Reidar Kelstrup took first in armed drill down and academics, respectfully.

Daniel Van Santford was second in academics, while Danielle Corpus was second and Stephanie Menorca third in the iron woman event.

Speise was third in the armed drill team commander.
