Silverdale Kiwanis collecting socks for the homeless

For the third straight year, Silverdale Kiwanis will be collecting socks for the homeless.

Donations of socks can be dropped off at Kitsap Wal-Marts and Fred Meyers until Jan. 29. The socks will be donated as part of Kitsap County’s annual homeless count, club President-elect Angie Sell said.

The club collected 3,000 socks in 2008 and 4,400 in 2009.

It is aiming for 10,000 this year.

Any extra socks will be donated to other local charities.
