She just keeps going and going…

HANSVILLE — When Lynn Hix sets out to get something accomplished, especially for the Greater Hansville Area in which she lives, she gets it done with a vivacity that puts the Energizer Bunny to shame.

But when it came to feting her and her achievements, Hix modestly pushed aside compliments, saying it was the people who rallied with her that got the job done.

“Without everybody helping, I couldn’t be doing what I’m doing,” she said during Wednesday’s Hansville Neighbors luncheon. “I didn’t do all of this by myself.”

The monthly luncheon went a little longer than expected at the request of Greater Hansville Community Center president Tom Ritley to celebrate Hix’s accomplishments as the former GHCC president. She was presented with a collage of pictures of her work as president and praised by other past presidents.

“She is one of the most remarkable people I’ve come in contact with,” said Judy Foritano, incoming GHCC president. “When I first moved to Hansville, I wasn’t sure how to get involved with the community. Lynn thankfully took me in hand and helped me along the way. She really is a star in our community.”

During her years as GHCC president, Hix organized numerous events, including twice yearly book sales (which she separated from the annual Hansville Rummage Sale), the Welcome to Hansville Tea, the annual Halloween and Christmas parties and numerous raffles. She will now take the reins as event coordinator for the community center, allowing Ritley to fill the large shoes she left behind.

“While she was running this organization, she was responsible for building events and she took her valuable time consistently to do so,” Ritley said as he presented her with the collage he created. “Thank you Lynn Hix, for everything you’ve done. When the past presidents stepped down, you stepped up to the job. Lynn doesn’t just take a position, she’s a doer, and she’s hands on every day.”

“I appreciated what they said, but it wasn’t necessary,” Hix said Thursday. “I enjoy what I do… It’s nice to be recognized, but I’m not doing it for that. And I didn’t do this all by myself, other people helped also.”

Hix was presented with a basketful of ways to remember the different events she helped organize, including some Christmas ornaments, quilting fabric, an Energizer Bunny — which many agree is what Hix has been for Hansville — a gift certificate to JoAnn’s Fabrics and a bottle of wine for “when you’re tired of remembering,” Ritley said with a laugh.

“I worked with Lynn on the Greater Hansville Community Center Board from 2004 to 2006, and what Tom said about Lynn is an understatement,” past GHCC president Becky Ellison said. “She is always right there on the spot, taking up any slack. She is just an incredible worker and has done so much for Hansville.”
