Severe weather shelters to remain open Tuesday

The severe weather shelters are for anyone in the area who requires safe overnight refuge where none is available.

Two Kitsap County cold weather shelters will remain open Tuesday night as temperatures are again expected to drop below freezing.

The locations are Bremerton Foodline, 1600 12th St., Bremerton and North Kitsap Fire & Rescue, 26642 Miller Bay Road NE, Kingston.

Due to expected below freezing temperatures, the Kitsap County Department of Emergency Management activated the county’s Severe Weather Shelter Plan on Monday, Dec. 1, which allowed the shelters to open overnight and continued it Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Hours of operation will be from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. each night. Guests will not be able to check into the shelter after 10 p.m.
