When Miss Kitsap 2007 Megan Hornbuckle ends her reign on March 29, one of seven contestants will wear the tiara and title as her own exciting year representing all of Kitsap County begins.
Here are the contestants for the 2008 Miss Kitsap pageant, which begins at 6 p.m. March 29 at the Bremerton High School Performing Arts Center.
Jessica Matheson, 18, is a senior at South Kitsap High School. Her Little Sister is Katie Wittig. Matheson’s platform is “Keeping Theatre Alive,” and she will be performing a comedy monologue titled “The Stepsister Speaks Out.” Her future plans include attending Central Washington University to obtain a degree in design as well as performing in theatre productions.
Kasia Alexander, 20, is currently attending Olympic College. Her Little Sister is Taylor McKee. Alexander’s platform is “Keeping the Arts in Schools,” and she will be performing a dramatic monologue, “Rag Doll.” Her future plans include becoming a high school counselor.
Lauren Fuller, 17, is a senior at Klahowya Secondary School. Her Little Sister is Samantha Spence. Fuller’s platform is “Breast Cancer Awareness,” and she will be performing a jazz dance to the tune, “Hot Honey Rag.” Fuller, who is a sophomore at Olympic College through the Running Start program, plans on pursuing a career in nursing as a registered nurse.
Sheila Spiker, 23, is a senior at the University of Washington. Her Little Sister is Lindsey Nordberg. Spiker’s platform is “The Human-Animal Bond,” and she will perform a classic harp solo for her talent. Her future plans are to become veterinarian and own her own practice.
Carli Schmitz, 17, is a senior at South Kitsap High School. Her Little Sister is Moriah Graziani. Schmitz’ platform is “Asthma Awareness and Education,” and she will be performing a musical theatre jazz dance to the tune “Too Darn Hot” from the musical, “Kiss Me Kate.” Schmitz, who is a freshman at Olympic College through the Running Start program, plans to pursue a career as an emergency room nurse.
Samantha Przybylek, 21, is a student at Eastern Washington University. Her Little Sister is Kiana Cheyney. Przybylek’s platform is “Children’s Miracle Network,” and she will sing “Popular” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” Her future plans are to work as a registered nurse specializing in pediatric oncology.
Melissa Carlson, 17, is a senior at South Kitsap High School. Her Little Sister is Caedence Ortega. Carlson’s platform is “Habitat for Humanity in our community is more than just building houses,” and she will perform a ballet solo to “Don Quixote Variation Quiteria (Kitri) Enters.” Her future plans are to attend the University of Nevada and become an attorney.
Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for seniors and children 12 and under. Tickets are available at Nilsen’s Appliance Center in Silverdale or at Dahlquist’s Fine Jewelry in Poulsbo Village.
