The Kitsap County Public Health District has launched a new online application for property conveyance inspections of septic systems, making it easier to get a septic system review and inspection for property sales. Property owners, prospective buyers, real estate agents, or title companies can now submit an inspection application request online, without having to make a special trip to the Health District.

In addition, the system will automatically email application status updates to owners and their agents, allowing them to track the progress of the application and approval.

Local and state public health rules require that owners selling property must have a Health District inspection of septic systems. The purpose is to determine if the septic system is working properly and whether the use of the septic system is in compliance with applicable permits and regulations.

The Health District makes this determination by gathering all available permit and service records for the septic system, conducting a site inspection, and then issuing a septic system evaluation letter that documents the inspection findings―all within seven business days of application submittal.

In addition to obtaining a Health District inspection, a seller is also required to report septic system information through a real estate disclosure form. The inspection process not only helps the owner complete the septic system section of the real estate disclosure form, but also provides the buyer with accurate information about the septic system before they purchase the property, and allows the owner to identify and correct any septic system problems before they become an issue during the property sale.
