KINGSTON — A second man was arrested Oct. 30 for the alleged abduction and rape of a Kingston man in 2011.

Lance Nation Averett, 43, has been charged in Kitsap County District Court with first-degree rape. Tandy Lucas Murphy, 53, of Kingston, is also charged with the crime.

The alleged victim, a current inmate at the Oregon State Penitentiary, told counselors that he was walking into Poulsbo on June 3, 2011 when Averett pulled over in his car and offered to give him a ride. The inmate accepted, but Averett allegedly made a stop at Murphy’s home where the inmate was attacked. His hands were tied behind his back and he was allegedly raped by the two men. The inmate was then blindfolded, driven to the side of a Kingston road and released, according to a sheriff’s report.

The inmate spoke of the incident with counselors in Oregon who, in turn, brought it to the attention of Kitsap authorities.

After Murphy was arrested on Oct. 28, he spoke with sheriff’s detectives and reportedly said that Averett was dangerous and often talked about the television show “Dexter,” a program about a serial killer. Murphy said he thought Averett was capable of the things displayed in the show, according to the report on the arrest.

Murphy also reportedly told deputies that he saw Averett shock a complete stranger on the side of the road with a stun gun. Detectives located a sheriff’s report about such an incident from June 15, 2011. A man walking along Finn Hill Road reported that he was shocked with a stun gun by a stranger who came from behind him.

Averett is being held in the Kitsap County Jail on $500,000 bail.
