Local eighth-grader receives scholar award
Mencius Leonard, an eighth grade student at Poulsbo Middle School, recently received the Grand Level award from the Robinson Center for Young Scholars at the University of Washington after scoring above the 96th percentile on the SAT exam. Only 30 other seventh and eighth grade students in Washington state accomplished this level of achievement on the exam.
Kingston student awarded scholarship
Rachel Bishop, daughter of Russell and Robin Bishop of Kingston, has received a $1,000 President’s Scholarship from Western Washington University for the 2009-2010 academic year. President’s scholarships are awarded to the top 8 to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and are based on superior academic achievement. Bishop, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.9 GPA at Kingston High School and is interested in majoring in biology. She hopes to become a veterinarian.
Wolfle Art Walk
The Wolfle Elementary School Art Walk takes place Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the school. The event is free, and a dinner will be available for about $3 per person. Visitors have the opportunity to view classroom displays, the Growing Garden and the dedication of the Musical Mural. Musical performances will take place throughout the evening.
