Silverwood hires new head of school
The Silverwood School recently hired Susan Radtke to be the independent elementary school’s new head of school. Radtke comes to Silverwood with 20 years of independent school experience, and has worked with all grade levels from preschool through twelfth grade. She holds a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in humanities, and a master’s in English literature. Radtke will begin work at Silverwood in July.
Suquamish Rolling Reader program seeking tutors
The Suquamish Rolling Reader program, which pays middle and high school students to help elementary students who are reading at one grade level or more below their academic grade level, is looking for tutors. Tutors must pass a background check, be at least 14 years old, have a grade point average of 2.5 or better, be fluent in English and able to provide their own transportation to and from the Suquamish campus. Tutors earn $10 per hour, which is put into an interest bearing account that can be accessed up to three years after high school graduation and upon proof of enrollment into college. Enjoy a taco feed, support grad night
Grab your sombreros and head down to Central Market Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a festive Taco Feed to help support the Kingston and North Kitsap High School 2009 Grad Night Parties. The delicious tacos and side dishes will be prepared by Central Market’s fine cooking staff and served by KHS and NKHS students and parents. Cost is $5 and includes tacos (soft or crispy), beans, rice and soda pop. All proceeds go toward defraying the cost of the NKHS and KHS Grad Night Parties. Help our seniors celebrate their special day at a safe and fun graduation night event.
Coping with adolescent stress and depression
Parents of fifth grade students are invited to attend a special seminar on coping with adolescent stress and depression Wednesday, May 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the North Kitsap Auditorium. The seminar is meant to help parents whose children will be transitioning from elementary to middle school, and may be feeling stressed or depressed.
