The 2010 Festival of Chimes and Lights once again proved that Santa loves small town America as thousands flocked into downtown Port Orchard for the 12th annual lighting of the town Christmas tree and the welcoming of Kris Kringle. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on a fire truck and were escorted down Bay Street by the South Kitsap High School marching band.
The festival, this year entitled The Sounds of Christmas, featured choirs, the band and thousands of locals singing Christmas carols amidst the spectacular display of downtown Christmas lights.
The free event provided plenty of family fun at the library, Jingle Bell Boutique, marina and throughout the downtown. Free movies featured the premier of Debbie Macomber’s Call Me Mrs. Miracle, whose New York producers were the honorary tree lighters. Boats were on display in the marina as were our furry friends in the annual Pooch and Purrs on Parade costume contest.
Once again, Port Orchard was on display, and, once again, the weather cooperated for a wonderful wintery night for all.
