Retaining walls focus of SR 305 project

POULSBO — Even though the time-sensitive work on State Route 305 has been completed, crews from Stan Palmer Construction are still making inroads on the project.

During the winter months, crews will be building retaining walls on both sides of the highway in preparation for actual road construction next year, said City Engineer Andrzej Kasiniak.

Those retaining walls will mean some periods of limited access for businesses along the SR 305 corridor, Kasiniak said.

After a Monday contractor’s meeting, Public Works Director Jeff Bauman said the main concern is for property owners on the south end of the project.

“The state has promised two lanes of traffic and at least one access for all of the properties,” Bauman said.

The Washington State Department of Transportation will be contacting the property owners individually to inform them of when and how their properties will affected by the work.

“So far, there haven’t been any impacts, but this will be the drainage work for the highway on the south end,” Bauman said.

The next major part of the $14.9 million project that will impact traffic throughout the region is the installation of fish-friendly culverts at the Bond Road/SR 305 intersection, which is slated to take place in the summer of 2007.
