Rep. Jan Angel profile

State Representative, Position 1, Legislative District 26

Incumbent Jan Angel, Port Orchard (Prefers Republican Party)

Q: What background and experience do you bring to this office?

A: I am currently the State Representative for the 26th District and held the Kitsap County Commissioner office from 2001-08. I have been in business, commercial banking and finance for over 30 years and have also been a small business owner in both Pierce and Kitsap Counties. I was responsible for managing a $330 million county budget, 1,200 employees and 16 bargaining units/unions.

A graduate of Western Legislative Academy and NYU County Leadership Institute and also attended Colorado State University, University of Alaska, business administration, finance American Legislative Exchange Council, State Co-Chair and National Civil Justice Taskforce.

I was past Chair of CenCom 911 Executive Board, Kitsap Health Board, a board member of the Puget Sound Clean Air, Puget Sound Regional Council and Kitsap Economic Development Alliance.

Q: If elected, what will be your top three priorities, and how will you accomplish them?

A: I spent my first term fighting taxes and out-of-control spending. It’s disrespectful for government to spend more than it takes in and burden families with higher taxes. With so many laid off or had hours and pay reduced, we need to strengthen our economy and get you back to work.

You can’t raise taxes on small businesses and expect to create jobs.

Rather than pass the buck to local school districts, let’s fund education first and take politics out of education. I continue to fight for accountability, efficiency and transparency, things you should expect from your government.
