Rainy Daze releases benefit beer Dec. 20

Poulsbo’s Rainy Daze Brewing will be releasing their batch of Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, all the sales from which will go to benefit the victims of the recent Camp Fire in California, part of an effort orchestrated by the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and more than 1,400 breweries around the US, Japan, Germany, Italy and New Zealand.

On Nov. 27, Rainy Daze workers and volunteers from the Poulsbo Fire Department, Puget Sound Federal Fire Department and the Navy brewed up about 236 gallons, with the recipe and ingredients having been provided by the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. Now, said Rainy Daze Owner Mike Montoney, it’s time to collect on their investment.

“We transferred the beer yesterday to the bright tank and carbonated it,” Montoney said in a Dec. 18 interview. “I pulled a couple samples on it, it’s a beautiful beer. It’s got a nice, dark copper color and super well-balanced. It’s a very good beer.”

When asked if he would be holding onto the recipe, in order to continue to brew up some more bootleg Resilience IPA in the future, Montoney laughed before saying “no comment.”

Those looking to snag themselves a pint of Resilience IPA — and in doing so, help out the victims of the Camp Fire — are invited to Rainy Daze’s Resilience Night, Thursday, Dec. 20. Montoney said he and staff were excited to share their work with the community.

“Everybody here at the brewery is super excited to get it out and let everybody try it,” Montoney said. “It’s just super smooth drinking. I think it’s going to go over really well.”

“It’s pretty amazing that the brewing community stepped up to the level that they did,” Montoney added. “Hopefully this helps.”
