Radulescu memorial service March 1; fundraiser in Poulsbo

A memorial service for Washington State Trooper Tony Radulescu is scheduled for March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Showare Center arena in Kent.

BREMERTON — A memorial service for Washington State Trooper Tony Radulescu is scheduled for March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Showare Center arena, 625 W James St., Kent. The service is open to the public.

Radulescu was shot to death during a traffic stop on State Route 16 near Gorst around 1 a.m. Feb. 23. The suspect, Joshua Blake, later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A donation account has been opened in Radulescu’s name to assist his family in this time of need. Donations to the “Anthony Radulescu Memorial Fund” may be made at any Key Bank.

Yo!G’s Yogurt, 21505 Market Place Suite 106, will donate 20 percent of its sales March 1 to the memorial fund. The owner’s brother is a State Patrol sergeant who worked with Radulescu.

Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all state agency buildings be lowered to half-staff March 1. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business March 1, or the morning of March 2.

Sen. Christine Rolfes, D-Bainbridge Island, said, “This is a tragedy for our community, and my thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Radulescu’s family. I want to thank the men and women of the Washington State Patrol for their dedication to the protection of the public. Every day, they are on duty helping to keep the people of Washington safe.”

Those wishing to present flowers or other expressions of appreciation for Radulescu’s life of service can do so at the State Patrol District Headquarters at 4811 Werner Road in Bremerton. A memorial site has been placed at a prominent location in front of the building.

WSP asks that flowers not be left along SR 16 at the site of the shooting. The road is narrow at that point and it’s not necessarily safe to be out beside the roadway.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting, and five people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting Blake after the shooting. Anyone with tips about the shooting can call Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office at (360) 337-7101. Callers can remain anonymous.
