The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help in identifying two women who stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from the East Bremerton Wal-Mart March 1.

A Wal-Mart security guard reported the theft to a sheriff’s deputy March 2. He said the two women tried to write a check for numerous items including a 15-inch television, two gift cards, several DVDs and household items. The check did not clear and the women were told to contact the customer service counter to find out why the check was declined. Instead, the two women walked out of the store with all the items in the shopping cart.

The Wal-Mart cashier got a copy of one of the women’s driver’s license number and the deputy discovered it registered to a different woman. He contacted the victim who said her checkbook and other items were stolen from her Feb. 29 at Target. The victim also said she is a black woman and the two women who attempted to pass the check are white. The deputy said the suspects showed the cashier a driver’s license and they possibly have a fake identification card with the victim’s information and their picture on it.
