POULSBO — Residents can meet and question the three candidates for 23rd District state representative, position 2, on Monday, 6:30 p.m. at Poulsbo City Hall.

It’s the latest in a series of public forums hosted in various parts of the county by the League of Women Voters. The legislative candidates are Drew Hansen, a Bainbridge lawyer and civil-rights author who was appointed to the state House last year after Christine Rolfes was appointed to the state Senate; Henning B. Larsen of Poulsbo, poker tournament director for Clearwater Casino Resort; and James Olsen of Fort Ward, a retired Coast Guard captain and past candidate for state House and local sewer district board.

State representatives serve two-year terms and receive $42,106 a year and benefits. Their salaries are set by the Washington Citizens Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials.

Ann Smith, first vice president of the league, said each candidate will make an opening statement, followed by written questions from the audience. Each candidate will answer each question. Following the Q&A period, each candidate will make a closing statement.

Smith said former Port Orchard mayor Kim Able will moderate. The forum will be taped for broadcast on BKAT Cable Channel 12.

The primary election is Aug. 7. The two top vote-getters, regardless of party, advance to the Nov. 6 general election. Local races on the primary ballot: 1st Congressional District, one-month term; 6th Congressional District; 23rd District state representative, position 2; Superior Court judge, Court 7.

The County Commission District 2 position is on the ballot. Only district voters will vote in the primary election; all county voters will vote in the general election.
