PSNS & IMF to conduct oil spill exercise

BREMERTON – A training exercise with the deployment of oil spill response equipment just off Naval Base Kitsap in Sinclair Inlet will conducted by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility on Tuesday, Oct. 6. People living near the area may see activity in the vicinity of Blackjack Creek in Port Orchard.

People living near the area may see activity in the vicinity of Blackjack Creek in Port Orchard.

PSNS & IMF conducts periodic exercises in order to train on and assess the operational readiness of its facility response team and spill response equipment, in addition to the effectiveness of its geographic response plans and booming strategies developed to protect environmentally sensitive areas.

Exercise activities may be visible to the public, including oil spill response boats performing tactical oil recovery methods. Nothing will be released into the water during the exercise. There will be no adverse effects on the marine environment.
