Property change of value notices mailed

PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap County’s assessor’s office this past week mailed 97,643 change-of-value notices to residential and commercial property taxpayers throughout the county.

The assessor is required by state law to appraise property at 100 percent of market value, according to the assessor’s office. The notices, based on property sales that have occurred since Jan. 1, 2016, will be used when calculating property tax obligations payable in 2018.

Taxpayers can check their property values and characteristics in the “Parcel Details” feature on the assessor’s website: spf.kitsapgov.com/assessor. County sales trends are also available on the website, the assessor’s office said, as well as information regarding the various property tax exemption programs.

Those with questions or concerns about their 2018 value can contact the assessor’s office at 360-337-7160 or email assessor@co.kitsap.wa.us.

Property owners who choose to appeal their value to the Board of Equalization must have their appeal postmarked by Aug. 11.
