Programs to help CK students with college and career choices

College and career nights offer tips and resources for career- and college-bound students

SILVERDALE – The new school year is well underway, and now it’s time for juniors and seniors to start looking ahead. Several school-sponsored events over the next few weeks will seek to make that planning a little easier.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Central Kitsap High School will hold a College and Career Night for students and parents. The evening begins with a College and Career Fair at 5:30 p.m. Representatives from northwest colleges and universities will share admissions information. Military personnel will also be in attendance. Counselors will be on hand to share other information on a wide range of college and career topics. Parking space is limited; please carpool and use the junior and senior parking lots only.

Klahowya Secondary School will hold its own College and Career Night on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. Representatives from Pacific Lutheran University, Olympic College and Washington State University will make presentations. KSS counseling staff will also be there to cover special topics, involving the college application and scholarship process, alternatives to a four-year college, and more.

A third event will be held at Olympic High School on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Several local and regional colleges, including the University of Washington, Olympic College, Pacific Lutheran University, and a Naval ROTC representative, will give presentations beginning at 5:45 p.m. Following those presentations, the school will host workshops from 6:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Workshops include: college admissions, college essay writing, financial aid and high-demand careers.

All events are admission-free.
