Poulsbo population numbers finally add up

POULSBO — Assuming the new numbers are correct, Poulsbo has beaten Port Orchard and now reigns as Kitsap County’s third largest city.

Poulsbo had been reporting incorrect population numbers to the state Office of Financial Management for nearly 10 years, which annually updates city population estimates. The office released the <a href="http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/kitsap/nkh/news/38236864.html

“> new estimates in April, and recently the city’s Web site featured an asterisk on its home page, updating the city’s population estimate. The signs at the city limits remain unchanged.

Bremerton, the county’s largest city, ranks 27th statewide, with 36,620, according to the estimates.

Bainbridge Island, with an estimated 23,290, places at 41st statewide.

Since at least 2000, Port Orchard had narrowly topped Poulsbo. But with the addition of about 1,000 uncounted people now included in the tally, Poulsbo eked out an 86th ranking, with 8,855, and Port Orchard ranks 88th with 8,440.
