Poulsbo pedestrians reach a crossroad

Public Works Committee to hear about road-crossing dangers at 5 p.m.

Why didn’t the Poulsbo resident cross the road?

Citizens are headed to the Public Works committee meeting tonight to answer that riddle and propose a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Front Street, Fourth Avenue, Fjord Drive and Hostmark Street, where they say road-crossing is a dangerous task.

Created by resident Michael Paxhia, an e-mail account specifically for the issue — Stop4us@gmail.com — has received several tales of crosswalk woes.

Pedestrians, runners and cyclists call the intersection a problem area and cause for “safety anxiety,” as they wrote cars don’t stop at the crosswalk and often don’t adhere to Front Street’s 15 mph speed limit.

The city has discussed the issue at several previous committee meetings.

Flyers near the area urge residents to attend and “make Poulsbo a safer place for everyone to walk and drive.”

The meeting will be at Poulsbo’s City Hall. For information, call (360) 779-3901.
