POULSBO — A 57-year-old Poulsbo man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center Friday evening after his ATV rolled on top of him in a crash.

The man’s wife called 9-1-1 at 6:47 p.m. March 22 after she found her husband under the all-terrain vehicle he was using for yard work. Poulsbo Fire and North Kitsap Fire & Rescue responded to the scene on Robin Lane, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson.

Wilson reported that it appears the man “started the ATV in the driveway and drove about 50 feet, hit an embankment. [T]his flipped the ATV over as it struck a tree, and landed on top of [him].”

Wilson said medics resuscitated the man and were able to get a pulse before transporting him to Raab Park to be flown out by helicopter, which lifted off at 7:41 p.m. His condition was “very serious,” according to the report.

Wilson alcohol and drugs are not suspected, but there won’t be an investigation as the accident occurred on private property without any other vehicles involved. NKF&R spokeswoman Michele Laboda said the man had been wearing a helmet.
