POULSBO — While new homes spring up in Poulsbo like the colorful cutouts of a pop-up book, much of the commercial development around town has slowed for the time being. But that doesn’t mean changes aren’t still in the works, as some of the city’s most rapidly developing areas continue to burgeon into full-fledged business and shopping districts.

City of Poulsbo Planning Director Barry Berezowsky said a new soccer stadium and downtown bio-diesel fuel facility are a couple of possibilities still in the planning stages. The efflorescing Olhava area should see new additions as its commercial community continues building walls and opening doors this year.

Discussion is also under way regarding an incubator-type addition to the business park, providing new operations a bed of technical expertise and base of low starting costs to get their feet on the ground, Berezowsky said. Seventh Avenue and Front Street may also see some changes as 2008 moves ahead.

Madison Development Group’s animal supply retailer is expected to be ready for pet-loving shoppers the second quarter of 2008. Construction is set to begin early this year, and the store’s opening is expected four to five months after groundbreaking. When all 15,231 square feet are constructed in the lot south and east of Home Depot, 50 additional parking spots will be available. Sienna Architecture is designing the project.

Office Max

A Dec. 30 grand opening kicked off the start to this office supplier’s presence in Little Norway. Adjacent to Home Depot, the store is staffed by more than a dozen, and is now open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Seventh Avenue

Albert Maria Professional Building

While planning for the office structure is currently on hold, designs have been drawn up for a potential addition to the Seventh Avenue community. Located west of State Route 305 near the intersection of Forest Rock Lane, the three-story building would boast 49,000 square feet, a full basement and 22 under-building parking stalls, as well as 235 surface parking stalls on the 6.72-acre site. An extending crosswalk is proposed where Seventh Avenue will intersect the surface stalls, which will fall on either side of the road.

Front Street

Torval Canyon Professional Building

A professional office building is in the works for the northeast side of the Torval Canyon Road and Front Street intersection. The structure will consist of two levels of office space and two levels of under-building parking with 12 parking spaces. Three surface parking spaces will also be provided. The office space will total roughly 5,837 square feet, and the building’s height ranges from 22 to 32 feet. Two driveways from Torvel Canyon Road will provide access. Miles Yanick and Co. is the project designer.
